Good Morning, Milliways!
It's a nice, crisp, Fall morning in New England. I wish I could share my weather and some cider with you all.
Instead of that, however, as the last installment in the Character Childhood series, I bring you a fic prompt. If this doesn't inspire you, feel free to ask for prompts, or come up with something else.
Fic prompt! Write a short fic (or something longer if it strikes) about a moment in your character's childhood. It can be silly, it can be serious, but it should be something that made an impression on them.
So here goes...
Martin is jostled a bit as they head through the crowd. His hand is clasped far above his head in the large hand of his Uncle Darren. Somewhere about are Mum and Dad and Caitie and Simon with his buggy, but he'd wanted to get a better look at the shiny cars that were just like his best toys, and Uncle Darren said he'd take him so that Mum and Dad could get a drink and have a sit down while Caitie and Simon got a candyfloss.
Martin's legs are tired after walking all the way across the field, and you can't even get proper close up to touch the shiny cars 'cause there's a bit of rope in the way, so he tugs on Uncle Darren's hand until he comes down from all the way up high.
"Can you carry me?" He asks.
Uncle Darren grins. "What do you say?"
Oh, yes, he'd forgotten. "Please Uncle Darren can you?"
Uncle Darren swings him, shrieking with laughter, through the air, soaring like going on the swings and slides only better, and seats Martin solidly on his shoulders.
As they walk back there's an announcement, a jumbled up loud voice, and Uncle Darren says, "Oh, look out kiddo, here come the planes."
And Martin looks up. And up again. And then WOOSH.
They streak across the blue, trailing smoke (in all different colours and how do they do that) and a crackling boom noise that sounds like they're ripping holes in the sky, and Martin has never seen anything so fantastic EVER.
His mouth hangs open and he clutches his hands over his ears because brilliant or not, those are the loudest things he's ever heard, and he stares as they loop the loop and whizz back and forth, somersaulting and just generally being amazing.
And that's when Martin knows exactly what he wants to be more than anything else in the whole world when he grows up. He wants to be a plane and fly just like that and make loud noises and shoot out smoke and be fantastic.
[OOC: If anyone cares, one of these is probably the air show Martin was taken to.]
